The Good Shepard And Earth Day

Today I had the choice of teaching about Earth Day or The Good Shepard in Religion class. I decided to teach a little bit about both subjects.

So I made some Earth Day cookies for the snack. They are really simple to make. Make your favorite sugar cookie mix. Then dye half of the dough green.

Then dye the other half of the dough blue. I used gel food coloring.

Grab a piece of green dough and a piece of blue dough and roll into a ball.  Bake according to your recipes directions.

Then for the craft we made The Lord is My Shepard craft. The kids loved the craft and some of the kids in the class are very artistic.

We glued all different sized pearls on the sheep.

We did some scripture readings on The Good Shepard and talked about how Jesus is the Shepard and we are his sheep.

For the take home treat - Kit Kat bars. i covered the bars in green paper and tied the charm with blue ribbon in honor of Earth day, The gold charm says "Try God."

Earth Day Bracelets

In honor of Earth Day - I made some bracelets. Only using items that I had in my craft cabinet.

I made some recycle bracelets.

To make these bracelets - I found some ABC beads and used them to spell out environmental messages. I also found some Earth beads that I probably bought last year. I simply strung the beads and letters on beading elastic.

Every day should be Earth day! Recycle, reuse, repurpose. 

Peace on Earth Ornament - Day 1 of the Twelve Days of Ornaments

This is one of my favorite ornaments! I especially love the meaning of the ornament. Let there be Peace on Earth and let it begin with me. If we all loved and respected each other the world would be a  better place.

Peace on Earth will come to stay, when we live Christmas everyday.

Supply List:

blue felt

circle to trace

black pen

green felt

peace sign bead

blue embroidery thread

green embroidery thread

needle

scissors

thin blue ribbon

Directions:

Trace circles onto the blue felt with the black pen. I traced a medium sized water glass.

Carefully cut out the blue felt circles.

Each ornament needs two felt circles. Only the top circle is decorated.

Cut out odd shaped green felt pieces and sew them onto the front piece of the blue felt with green thread. Also sew on the Peace sign bead. I bought the Peace sign beads at Michael's.

Sew the front piece onto the back piece with blue thread. At the top of the ornament sew the thin ribbon into a loop.

Earth Day Cookies

Tomorrow - April 22nd is Earth Day. Everyday should be Earth Day! Reuse, recycle, repurpose. These cookies were so simple to make. Using your favorite sugar cookie recipe and blue and green gel food coloring.

You can find gel food coloring at any craft or party store.

I made a batch of sugar cookie dough and divided the dough in half.

Kneed the blue gel food coloring onto one half of the dough and the green food coloring onto the other half. Gel food coloring will also stain your hands - I put my hands into plastic bags while I kneed the food coloring int each dough ball.

To make the cookies simply take a good pinch of blue and a good pinch of green and roll them into little balls.

The cookies come out of the oven looking like the Earth! 

Don't these cookies look adorable? After I made them I had the brilliant idea that I should have made them into hearts — which would have translated to "love the earth." 

Ladybugs for Meals on Wheels

I have been making some Ladybugs for Meals on Wheels. This has been a labor intensive project, many steps, but super easy. I like to craft while I watch my favorite television shows.

When I make something for Meals on Wheels I have to make 50!

Supply List:

Black scrapbook or construction paper

circle punch 1 or 1 1/2" round

soda tabs

red Sharpie

black Sharpie

black wire

sharp scissors

black seed beads

small google eyes

glue gun and glue sticks

red scrapbook paper

small plastic bags

small white labels

black pen

mini ladybug stickers

Directions:

Cut wire into 1 1/2" pieces and wrap a small black seed bead around each end.

Punch out some black circles - if you don't have a black punch just trace a small shot or juice glass. Attach the beaded wire to the back of the black circle using a small drop of hot glue.

Using the red Sharpie completely color the soda tabs red. When the red has dried use the black Sharpie to make the dots. Heat up the glue gun and attach the soda tabs and google eyes to the round black circle.

They look so cute! Once the hot glue is dry - the Ladybugs can be packaged.

Cut the red scrapbook paper to fit inside the small plastic bag. Then pop the ladybug into the bag.

I added a label and mini Ladybug sticker to complete the little soda tab Ladybug.

Earth Day Rings

Today I  made some Earth Day rings. I am substitute teaching Religion class this Wednesday - which also happens to be Earth Day. And when I was emailed the lesson - the last part of the lesson was taking care of the Earth that God gave us. So I made the kids little Earth Day rings.

I simply hot glued some "Earth" beads onto some little silver rings.

I found the little silver rings in the wedding section at Michael's. And I have a ton left over - so perhaps I will plan a Meals on Wheels ring project.

Every day should be Earth Day. Reuse, recycle and repurpose. Less is more.
