John 3:16 Candy Bars

I made some John 3:16 patches and glued them on a paper wrapped Hershey bar for my 5th grade Religion class this week.

Supply List:

flat candy bar (I used a Hershey bar)

thick white wrapping paper

tape

scissors

tan felt

brown felt

drinking glasses (to trace)

brown or black pen

brown embroidery thread

white embroidery thread

cross bead or button

I wrapped a bunch of Hershey bars with thick white wrapping paper. I like to leave the edges showing.

Using a glass trace circles onto tan felt. Write John 3:16  with a black or brown pen leaving room for a cross bead.

Sew over the writing with brown embroidery thread and sew a cross bead in the middle. Then sew the tan circle onto a larger dark brown circle with white thread in a running stitch.

I think they came out super cute! These patches could also be made into bookmarks by simply sewing a long piece of ribbon on the back.

Hershey Bar with Praying Hands

I made some Hershey bars with a praying hands charm for the kids in my Religion class today.

I wrapped the Hershey bar with white wrapping paper. Then added a praying hands charm with a silver ribbon bow. 

I bought the silver praying hands charm from  the Oriental Trading website. And I had the thin silver ribbon in my craft cabinet. 

Preparing to Substitute Teach 4th Grade Religion Class

May is the the month of Mary. Sometimes the teacher doesn't leave me enough worksheet/reading to teach the class. So I bring a lot of my own worksheets and coloring sheets.

And I usually decide on a theme like "Our Holy Mother Mary" to teach the class.

I downloaded  a bunch of pictures of Mary.

And found some Rosary's for the children in my Religion box.

I found all the prayers of the Rosary and the mysteries on one sheet of paper.

And this awesome Rosary worksheet.

I made some Rosary cookies for a middle of the class snack.

I made some pretty beaded crosses to glue onto Hershey bars for a take home treat.

I found the wooden crosses at Hobby Lobby. And hot glued beads from my craft cabinet.

The beads are often on sale at Michael's and JoAnne's.

When I was gathering all of my supplies this Beatles song was on my mind - "When I find myself in times of trouble Mother Mary comes to me speaking words of wisdom - Let it be."

Simply wrap the Hershey bar with a heavy card stock and glue the cross onto the front of the candy bar.

These candy bars would also make cute party favors for a baptism or first communion.

Also while I was starting to write this post I was watching "Sister Act" - it is one of my favorite movies.

Teaching 1st Grade Religion Class

Today  I substitute taught  first grade Religion class - they were so well behaved, such good readers and a lot of fun. I wanted to take them all home with me!

We were still learning about the Easter story. 

 I printed out a lot of coloring and worksheets.

We also learned about John 3;16 - with this coloring sheet.

I also made them some John 3;16 candy bars.

I simply took some Hershey bars.

And I wrapped the candy bars in heavy white card stock.

Then I taped the John 3;16 patch onto the candy bar. I made the patch on another log post.

At the end of class we played Holy Hangman and the kids loved it!

Mini Turkeys Made with Hershey Nuggets

These little Turkeys are so easy to make and I had a lot of Hershey nuggets leftover from when I made bats for Halloween and Bibles for religion class.

Supply List:

Hershey nuggets

Brown lunch bags

Brown card stock

Orange card stock

Brown printed scrapbook paper

Orange printed scrapbook paper

Green printed scrapbook paper

1 1/2 inch round punch

2 1/2 inch scalloped punch

Scissors

Google eyes

Small glue dots

Scotch tape

Directions:

Lay out your Hershey nuggets.

Cut strips of brown lunch bags - and cut into 1-inch by 3-inch strips and tape around the Hershey nugget.

Punch the brown card stock with the 1 1/2 -inch circle punch. Using small glue dots affix the goo ogle eyes and an orange beak.

Using a loop of scotch tape affix the head to the front of the Hershey nugget.

Cut out the patterned scrapbook paper with the scalloped punch. 

Cut the scalloped circles in half and tape them together in a staggered pattern. Using a tape loop apply the scalloped circles to the back of the Hershey nugget.

These were so simple to make and would be cute on a Thanksgiving table or to bring to the classroom for a little treat.

Bats Made From Hershey Nuggets

Today I got into a Halloween mood! I made these cute little bats and it took about an hour to make 24 bats.

Supply List:

black card stock

scissors

Hershey nuggets

2" scalloped circle punch

white pen

small glue dots

small goggled eyes

Directions:

Cut a piece of black card stock into a 1" x 2 1/2" strip and punch a black circle. Cut the circle in half.

Wrap the strip around the Hershey nugget and tape into place.

Using a small glue dot adhere the googley eyes. And using the white pen draw the fangs.

Use the glue dots again the adhere the bat wings. What a simple project! 

I also piped some spiders onto my homemade chocolate chip cookies! Feeling spooky! Happy Halloween.

Substitute Teaching 3rd Grade Religion Class

This week I was asked to substitute teach 3rd grade Religion class. I quickly made some store-bought chocolate covered graham crackers into little Rosary cookies with some icing dots and a little cross. October is also the month of the Rosary.

The lesson was on Luke 18:9-14 which is the parable of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector. I found this word search on the internet.

I also found this coloring sheet. At first the children thought the man on the floor was the Pharisee.

Then I took some snack sized Hershey bars and made them into little take home treats.

I wrapped the candy bars with some blue wrapping paper and put a little "Be Humble" sticker on each candy bar. To be humble is really what I wanted the kids to understand from the parable.

I love 3rd graders - they are so smart and fun!

St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta Hershey Bars

Tomorrow I am substitute teaching a 4th grade Religion class. I am going to teach the kids about Saint Mother Teresa of Calcutta.  Tomorrow I will post the coloring sheets that I printed out with everything that I am bringing to the class room.

So I made the kids these Hershey Bars with my favorite quote from Mother Teresa -"Do small things with great love." I was able to print out these cute little tags from  showerofroses.blogspot.com she actually used them for cupcake toppers. And her blog has so many awesome ideas for Catholic mothers.

I took some Hershey bars and wrapped them with white wrapping paper.

I cut out the quote and taped it to a blue scalloped circle. Then I taped the circle onto the white wrapped Hershey bars.

We should all try to "do small things with great love."
