Pencil Cookies - A Back-to-School Treat

These cookies were so easy to make! Probably because you start with a store bought wafer cookie.

I bought my wafer cookies at Target. But I know they also carry them at grocery stores. Be sure to buy the vanilla flavor for this project,

Ingredients:

Vanilla wafer cookies

Pink chocolate disks

White chocolate disks

Mini chocolate chips

Directions:

Cut one side of the cookie into a point with a sharp knife.

Lay the pointy side of the cookie facing down on a large piece of foil or wax paper.

Melt some pink chcocolate disks. Put the melted chocolate into a zipper top bag and snip off a tiny corner and pipe the erasers.

Then melt some white chocolate and put it in a zipper bag and snip a corner. Pipe the white point and while the chocolate is till warm add the mini chocolate chip. 

Let the cookies dry and then they can be stacked into a box.

These were so simple to make! And while I was making them I thought they would be cute made into candles to celebrate the Feast Day of Saint Blaise. They would also be cute made into ties for Father's day.

School Bus Made with Popsicle Sticks For Meals on Wheels

 I made 50 school buses for a Meals on Wheels September party favor. These would be cute to make for a back-to-school party! I also think they would make fun decorations for teacher appreciation week.

Supply List:

jumbo popsicle sticks

small popsicle sticks

yellow paint

foam paint brush

glue gun

glue sticks

large rhinestone

brads

thick black scrapbook paper

circle cutter

Exacto knife

black Sharpie pen

Directions:

Paint all of the popsicle sticks that you will be using. Each school bus needs 4 jumbo popsicle sticks and 4 small popsicle sticks.

I found the jumbo sticks and small sticks at Michael's. 

Since I was making 50 buses - I had to paint a ton of popsicle sticks.

I paint while I watch my favorite television shows.

While the popsicle sticks were drying - I used a circle cutter and cut out all of the wheels. Using an Exacto knife make a small hole in the center of the circle and add the brad.

The first step is to hot glue 3 jumbo sticks together. 

Turn the jumbo sticks over and glue the four small sticks - yellow side facing down.

Once the four sticks have set turn the popsicle sticks back over.

The final steps are to add the large rhinestone to the middle jumbo popsicle stick. Glue on a jumbo popsicle stick to the top of the small popsicle sticks. Using a black Sharpie pen write school bus or the name of your school. And finally glue the wheels on the bottom jumbo popsicle stick.

Once I made 50 of these buses - over a three day period. I needed to take a little break.

I am going to label and package these buses next week. Hopefully I will remember to take photos of the packaging!

Back-to-School Treats for Meals on Wheels

School supplies are so fun! When my kids were little - I used to host little Back-to-School parties and give everyone a goodie bag with pencils, glue sticks, crayons. So when I was thinking what should I make for Meals on Wheels in September? There is no "real" holiday to celebrate in September - but I could do some sort of Back-to-School fun treat.

I saw these pencils at Target. And knew that I could do something cute with them. P.S. It took a long time to sharpen over 100 pencils!

Michael's had a 20% off everything this week - even clearance items. So I picked up these stickers on super sale!

Using "pretzel" bags that you can pick up at any craft or party store - I added two pencils to each bag and made a little tag with my A+ sticker and stapled it on top of the pretzel bag. And this will be the September Meals on Wheels treat.

On the little tag I wrote "You have the write stuff to get an A+

These little pencil bags would be fun for your kids to make for friends/classmates. And if you aren't making 50 bags - you could add extra pencils to the bag. This would also be cute with colored pencils.

ABC and 123 Graham Cracker Treats

This is a really fun treat for back-to-school or it can even be used for teacher appreciation week.

I have 10 items on my Fall Bucket list and so far I have completed 4 out of the ten and blogged about them! I am thrilled with my follow-through!

Practice making icing numbers and letters on parchment paper.

Using half of a Hershey bar - glue the printed side face down on the graham cracker with a little icing.

So to make this simple project you will need:

Graham crackers

Hershey bars

Red m&m's

Primary colored icings

Parchment paper

Back-to-School Bus Treats

I like to put little Hot Wheel type buses on everyone's placemat for the first few weeks of school.

And I always make little back-to-school treats for a little homework incentive. This year I made some easy little school bus treats out of Hershey miniatures. They were so fun and easy to make.

You will need:

Yellow scrapbook or construction paper
Pencil
Ruler
Fine tipped black pen
Scissors
Tape
Hershey miniatures

The Mr. Goodbars are my favorite. I might have had a few while working on this project!

Using your ruler measure each bus in a 2 3/4 x 1 1/4 rectangle. Then measure from the bottom 3/4" from the bottom and draw a line. Hand draw the windows, doors and wheels. Write the words "school bus."

Using the fine tipped black pen - color in the windows, door and wheels. Write over the words "school bus." Then cut out each bus and place it around the Hershey miniature, tape the ends.

This is a fun project that your kids could help you make!

I filled the candy bowl that I keep on the end table in the living room. I wonder how long these will last?

Pencils!

Today I finished making one of the end-of-year treats for Christian's class.  I made 38 of these pencils! I wish that I could take credit for this idea but it was featured in the 2010 issue of Creating Keepsakes magazine. They had some additional steps in the magazine that I deleted - like wrapping thin silver tape in the area between the yellow and pink papers and crimping the yellow paper. I don't want to be lazy - BUT the kids are just going to rip these open to gobble up the candy!

To make these pencils you will need:

* individual packages of Rolos
* bag of Hershey's Kisses
* yellow card stock
* light pink card stock
* glue gun
* sharp scissors
* ruler
* pinking shears
* double stick tape
* black Sharpie pen

My very first tip is to buy the Rolos at Target - by the front checkout area. At Target the Rolos are .79 each and I saw them other places for $1.19 and .99. I bought 38 packages of Rolos so the lower price is important.

The first step that you should do is hot glue a Hershey's kiss to the top of the Rolo. Be sure to trim the little Hershey's tag off with some sharp scissors.

While I was watching the French Open I cut the yellow card stock into 4 1/2" x 4" pieces.

I cut one of the shorter (4') sides with pinking shears.

Once I cut 38 pieces of yellow card stock and used pinking shears to cut one side. I rolled the yellow card stock around the Rolos.

I put double stick tape on the three sides that were not trimmed with the pinking shears. And rolled the yellow card stock around the Rolo. The zig zag side should be facing the Hershey Kiss.

I used a ton of double stick tape on this project!

I marked the end of the pencil with a black  Sharpie marker - No. 2.

Okay - when I bought the yellow card stock at Michael's I was sure that I had pink card stock at home. But I didn't. The pink paper that I had was hot pink - erasers are not hot pink! So I improvised - I found some light pink wrapping paper.  I cut the wrapping paper in to 3/8" x 3 1/2" strips.

Using double stick tape I wrapped and taped the light pink paper around the top of Rolo.

I made 38 of these pencils! By the time I was done my back was killing me!

This would be a wonderful back to school lunch box treat or a fun year end treat for the classroom.

Now I must go lay down on a heating pad!
