Felt Footballs for Meals on Wheels

I started making felt footballs for a Meals on Wheels Superbowl treat. So far I have made around 20 while watching the Australian Open tennis tournament. I need to make 30 more!

Supply List:

brown felt

football shaped cookie cutter

white chalk pen

sharp scissors

white embroidery thread

brown embroidery thread

embroidery needle

thin white ribbon

cotton balls 

Directions:

Trace the football cookie cutter with the white chalk pen onto the brown felt. Each ornament requires two football shapes. Cut out all the football shapes that you need for your project.

Using the white embroidery thread - sew the football lines onto the front of the football.

Sew the front and back of the football together. Before sewing the ornament shut stuff the ornament  with a few cotton balls and sew in a white ribbon loop.

I started sewing them with a running stitch.

But I think that using a blanket stitch looks a little more football-ish.

I think these footballs would look amazing on a Christmas tree or as decorations for your Superbowl party! Let me know if you decide to make them!

Super Bowl Cards and Ring for Meals on Wheels

My son plays baseball and basketball - so when I buy the sports packet of foam items and beads - I always use the baseball and basketballs. So yesterday I finally used up the footballs! I made a little Super Bowl card for Meals on Wheels.

I also had a bunch of rings left over from another project and I simply hot glued the football bead onto the silver ring and let them dry on a piece of cardboard.

Using a hole punch and a piece of ribbon - I simply tied the "Super Bowl Ring" to the inside of the card.

The card I used was simply an unlined index card folded in half.  I hope the Meals on Wheels recipients  like the little cards and rings!

This would be a cute item to make for a Super Bowl invitation or use the rings for party favors or to decorate your party table! You can find the sports beads, rings and ribbon at Michael's or Hobby Lobby. And don't forget to use your coupons!

Pretzel Footballs - Perfect for the Superbowl

In our house it's football smootball. We only watch the Superbowl. We are a baseball and basketball family. My husband and son also like auto racing and I watch tennis. We just don't have the time or inclination to watch football.

So once a year I post a little football idea (right before the Superbowl).

I made these footballs by using brown lunch bags.

For this project you will need:

Pretzels

Brown lunch bags

White embroidery thread

Brown marker

Scissors

Large needle

Freehand draw a football - don't draw on the bottom area of the bag.

Cut out the football - this will come out in two layers. Set the bottom layer aside and stitch your top layer lace design.

I used these football shaped pretzels to stuff the brown paper bag footballs. I bought these at Cost Plus World Market.

Aren't these football pretzels perfect to serve during the Superbowl or a Tailgate party?

Now neatly sew the top and bottom pieces together. Be careful when sewing on paper - it can easily rip  or tear.

Once the football is almost completely sewn start adding the football pretzels and complete sewing all the way around.

These would be cute snacks for any football party. You could write your favorite team on the football. These would also be a wonderful party favor.

Football Sugar Cookies

Use your favorite sugar cookie recipe - or use my sugar cookie recipe from my Numbers Cookie post on December 29, 2011.

My football cookie cutter came in a sports cookie kit from Michael's but Sur La Table has huge bins of cookie cutter for $1 each - check it out!

I baked these footballs for about 7 minutes.

Once the footballs had cooled I was able to start the decorating process. But first I must say these look a little like chocolate Easter eggs! Yes?  Back to the decorating - I melted some chocolate and spread it over each football with the back of a spoon. High tech! I know!

Once the chocolate was dry I used a white icing pen to add the laces.  Super Bowl easy! These are also great treats for the team, lunch boxes and after school snacks. Go team!

Creative Gift Wrap For Football Fans

Sometimes more is more! On Friday my son is going to a birthday party and his friend is a football player. My son plays basketball and baseball - so sometimes when I need baseball stickers - the sticker set comes with football and soccer stickers. Although he doesn't play football or soccer - many of his friend do and I save these items for gift wrap, the Super Bowl and Soccer play offs!

Our package is wrapped with brown paper and tied with three different sizes of white ribbon. I used two sizes of football stickers. Then I tied on a small package of football candy and there is a Rolo cigar taped in the upper right hand corner. Everyone should have a cigar on their birthday! I used a football ornament to write the "to and from" with a Sharpie pen.

I used some football beads to tie at the end of the thin ribbons.

I hope this inspires you to wrap your gifts - using the "more is more" approach!

Football Brownies - Two Ways!

Today I made football brownies. First make a 9 x 13 pan of your favorite brownie mix.

Then cut the brownies out with a football shaped cookie cutter. Then frost the brownies with chocolate frosting and pipe on the white laces.

These are so simple to make and everyone will be amazed at your creativity.  Tip: be sure to cut the brownies out with the cookie cutter and then frost them. The other way around is to messy!

Now another fun football brownie idea is to cut the brownies into squares and frost them. Then cut Andes candies into football shapes and add little candy sprinkles to make the laces.

This was also an easy project! Plus I love Andes mints and when I goofed up cutting the football shape- I just popped the opps! into my mouth.

Okay - in order to get the little white sprinkles to stay on the Andes mint I scored the Andes mint with a paring knife. Then I slowly and softly pushed the sprinkle into the little indentation.

This is another easy brownie project! If you make one of these easy projects - everyone will be in awe of your Super Bowl creativity.

Super Bowl Bracelets

I was thinking what could I do for a football/Super Bowl craft? So I looked in my craft area and decided to make bracelets.

First I found some football beads then I found the alphabet beads and bingo - I had an idea. However, I think I used the wrong kind of stretchy string - I only had black and clear would have worked a lot better.

When you string the alphabet beads to make words - you need to add the spacers in between - like I did with the small silver beads.

I think these would be fun for the kids to make while your favorite team plays. You can get everything you need at Michael's or your local bead shop.

When I was growing up I used to bead for hours under the shade of the big tree in my front yard. Neighbors would buy necklaces and bracelets from me for $1 and I used to ride my bike alone or with a friend my age to the bead store.

How times have changed.
