Red, White and Blue Table Setting

I started getting ready for the 4th of July - by getting my table ready for dinner. I used a lot of my Christmas red and white items combined with a few blue items from my kitchen.

I use this platter for Flag Day (also my Dad's Birthday), Memorial Day and of course the 4th of July.

Before you go out and buy specific red, white and blue dishes - see what you have in your kitchen. The polka dot placemats are mostly used at Christmas. The red and white silverware I bought one year to use for Valentine's Day.  So checkout your holiday items and you might be able to make a wonderful table with items from your own home!

Dining Room Redo

A few years ago after a tennis match Sandee and I toured a home for sale. They used the best colors to decorate this home. The dining room was white and navy blue and we both loved it

My dining room has a chair rail and underneath the chair rail it was painted red. My painter used a grey primer and painted three coats of red.  Since my dining room is open to the living room and my living room is open to my family room and my family room is open to the kitchen - I have little red accents in each room for the past ten years.

The red looks great with so many holiday themes. Christmas, Valentine's Day and of course 4th of July! I still love the red and if I ever have a home with a library - I am going to paint the walls red and have the shelves painted white.

The red looks wonderful with the white dining in room table - but like I said earlier - it has been TEN years.

Lately I have grown tired of the red. So I decided to have underneath the chair rail painted navy blue. I love it so much! Now I needed to fix up the chairs by removing the red and white polka dot fabric. Underneath the red and white polka dot fabric was the red and cream toile fabric. And now I have a blue and white gingham. My fingers are a mess after removing hundreds of upholstery staples.

What do you think of my new navy blue dining room? I absolutely love it! I have been spending an unbelievable amount of time looking for blue accessories. It is fun to freshen up for spring.

Blue and white is a classic combination - it will never really go out of style.

Red, White and Blue Table Setting

My Dad's birthday is June 14th - which is also "Flag Day." So each year when he comes over for his birthday dinner - I decorate the table in red, white and blue. Oh and of course some Flags!

That is my Dad's gift - wrapped in Flag paper! And although you really can't see it - I used some toothpick Flags to decorate the middle of the bow!

I love red, white and blue! It is so festive!

I made Pillsbury Flag cookies and set the dish on an upside down red, white and blue bowl.

This is a close-up of each place setting. I used a blue star toothpick to decorate each napkin.

The chandelier is also decorated with Flags and red, white and blue!

This table setting would be perfect for Memorial Day or the Fourth of July. Of course I would move move everything to the backyard.

Flag Day

My Dad's birthday was yesterday - June 14th. Also known as Flag Day. My parents are coming over for a birthday dinner tomorrow night. Even though it is two days after Flag Day - I still decorated the table with Flags and Red, White and Blue!

I also use similar table settings for Memorial Day and the 4th of July.

The Table Set for Sunday Night Dinner

Dining Room

Here are some pictures of my dinning room. Note: I am a room mom!

I started setting up the dinning room, I collect Spode Christmas china and add new pieces every year.

Okay - you probably didn't notice but I recovered my dinning room chairs in polka dots. Then I found polka dot placemats and napkins at Pottery Barn.

I love the Spode Christmas tree - it is so beautiful. Plus nothing says Christmas to me like the Spode Christmas tree china.

New Dining Room Chair Fabric

Okay - so my current dining room chairs have been recovered in a red and beige toile for about five years and I have grown tired of the fabric. It is more of a formal look and I am more of a casual decorator.

Last spring Sandee and I went to an open house and the dining room was to die for - in white and navy blue. We both wanted to go home and paint our dining rooms navy blue ( it screamed class!).  However, my husband doesn't want to repaint or hire a painter - so I am going to live with the red which I really do love. My next house will have the navy and white dining room.

So I went to the fabric store and purchased two polka dot fabrics.  Since the wall below the chair rail  in the dining room is red I decided to stick a red and white fabric. So I brought home a small polka dot fabric and a large polka dot - thinking that my husband would like the smaller print.

 

But we had a family vote and everyone voted for the large polka dot! I was shocked! So this week I am going to buy enough large polka dot fabric to redo all of the dining chairs. So be on the lookout for photos of my new cheerful dining room.
